Trent Reznor Talks Nine Inch Nails' "Hesitation Marks"

Trent Reznor Talks Nine Inch Nails'

Trent Reznor announced on stage at Bonnaroo in 2009 that he was playing the last Nine Inch Nails show ever in the United States.

In an interview with the New York Times, Reznor explains how he felt in 2009.  Reznor says, "After several years in a row of pretty consistently touring, I felt kind of burned out.  I felt tired of the format. It was starting to feel stale to me.”

Reznor got married, had children, and spent his time doing scores for films.  Eventually, Trent Reznor started writing songs again for Nine Inch Nails.  What he ended up with is Hesitation Marks.  The new album releases on September 3.

Reznor describes Hesitation Marks as feeling "sparse" and "minimal."  He goes on to say, “I don’t think it’s a gentle record. I do think it’s more subversive in how it gets you. It’s not about everything being at 11 and the pyrotechnics of sound and scare tactics, which I’ve definitely used in the past. But it doesn’t feel like the middle-aged, I’ve-given-up record either.”
