Weenie Roast '13 Highlights

This year's Weenie Roast '13 powered by Muve Music is in the books. The weather was incredible and the show featured Thirty Seconds to Mars, Sublime with Rome, AWOLNation, Sick Puppies, Filter, Airborne Toxic Event, New Politics, Manchester Orchestra, Biffy Clyro, Langhorne Slim & The Law, Matrimony, The Unlikely Candidates, Leogun, Skratch 'N Sniff and Beyond the Broken!

The parking lots opened at 10:00, and fans took advantage of beautiful tailgating weather before doors opened at noon. Meanwhile, the Weenie Roast crew was rapidly getting things prepared inside VWA. As soon as fans came to the 106.5 tent, they could register for a chance to win a meet and greet with their favorite band. We had meet and greets with every band, so all the girls dreamed of the opportunity to meet Thirty Seconds To Mars heart-throb Jared Leto.

Woody and Wilcox brought their theatrics and entertainment to the 106.5 tent in between band interviews, having way too much fun on the microphones. They even took a few fan photos- who knew they had fans! Beer Club members even graced us with their presence.

Our Big Weenie Winner, Samantha Sullivan, got All Access during the event and introduced some of the biggest bands of the day! She also Tweeted up a storm, which means her day rocked. You can check out some of her photos here:

Airborne Toxic Event guitarist Mikel Jollett showcased his southern accent during the band's interview. Be sure to check out this LA guy turned Southerner. The band also had an interesting intellectual conversation with Woody and Wilcox on music, commercialism, and selling out. (Below)

Winning fans enjoyed the opportunity to meet band members after they concluded their interviews with Woody and Wilcox. Fans weren't just excited during meet and greets, apparently a couple took excitement to a whole new level on the lawn. Have you seen this tweet?

Local Charlotte band Matrimony was thrilled to be playing at this year's Weenie Roast and posted this photo from backstage with Thirty Seconds to Mars:

New Politics lead singer David Boyd confessed that he was a big break dancer, and even showed his moves on stage during his performance. New Politics electric performance climaxed as Boyd walked out onto the fans by the side stage.

Filter's interview was a little more political- Richard Patrick shared his views about Piracy and alternative fuels (Below). The band played hits from their albums including a heavy version of "Best Things." They capped off their performance with "Hey Man Nice Shot."

Thirty Seconds to Mars took the stage and their energy filled Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Fans waiting in the pit all day long were not dissapointed as the band played hits including "This is War," "Up in the Air" and their latest release "City of Angels." Concert goers Tweeted throughout the day using #WeenieRoast and @JaredLeto left us with this tweet after the show:

Weenie Roast was definitely a memorable experience…well, at least for those not passed out on the lawn. If you successfully made it to the Thirty Seconds To Mars performance, we salute you. If not, be sure to re-live it on our website…and check out if you made it into any lawn photos!
